Stacie Tovar of Omaha is on the cover of the national CrossFit-centered publication BoxLife Magazine. Tovar, who is well-known in the CrossFit community, is in the April/May issue.
“I never would have imagined that this small-town Nebraska girl would be featured on the cover of a national print magazine,” said Tovar, who grew up on a farm about two hours from Omaha. “In all sincerity, it was probably one of the biggest compliments I have ever received.”
It’s the first time Tovar has appeared on a magazine cover, though Shape Magazine named her one of the hottest and fittest CrossFit athletes in 2013. She said the attention from BoxLifeis flattering and she’s happy to share her fitness journey.
The 29-year-old tried CrossFit in 2007 and recently quit her job to CrossFit full time. She is sponsored by several companies in the fitness industry, including Reebok.
“I feel very fortunate to have been given such a wonderful opportunity to open up and share my story,” Tovar said.
Tovar hopes to compete in the 2014 Reebok CrossFit Games this summer for the sixth time. She’s currently training for CrossFit’s regional competition in Chicago in May.
She’s exercising more often in preparation for the Games but is also focusing on recovering from her workouts by seeing a chiropractor and massage therapist regularly.
“You just can’t train as hard as you want and expect to maintain,” she said. “You have to take care of yourself and recover properly or the increased volume will end up hurting you more than it will help.”
She hopes to not only qualify at the regional competition but finish on the podium.
“Like any competitive athlete, I want to win,” Tovar said. “But, regardless of win or lose, as long as I had a had fun, performed well and gave it my very best shot, then that’s all that really matters to me.”
