I grew up your typical Midwestern, country girl in a small, agricultural community of 700 people in North East, Nebraska. As the second oldest, I was raised helping out on my family’s farm alongside two sisters, Michelle and Kelli, and brother, Steve. We were always an active family growing up so outside of the normal sibling rivalry and farm chores, I stayed busy playing sports.
As a kid, I was inherently athletic and fiercely competitive so I often bested the boys in my class in most activities. In high school I was a multi-sport athlete and a standout in volleyball and track. I received scholarship offers in both sports and went on to accept an opportunity to play volleyball for the University of Nebraska Omaha. After four years of undergrad school and collegiate ball, I graduated with honors, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education.
In 2008, almost a year and a half after graduating and leaving competitive sports behind, I was convinced by my boyfriend (now husband) to give CrossFit a try. My first workout was nothing short of unforgettable. Quickly told, it involved deadlifts and box jumps and I was unable to finish the workout. I even scaled the weights and movements as many that are new to CrossFit often do. Despite the outcome of that first WOD (workout of the day), it didn’t take long before I was hooked and I’ve honestly never looked back.
Fast forward five years to October of 2013 and my competitive fire exploded. I left my corporate job behind to pursue my passion: becoming a full-time CrossFit athlete. It was the best decision of my life as every day I feel blessed to have found the CrossFit methodology and the amazing CrossFit community.
In 2017, shortly after qualifying for my eighth and final CrossFit Games, I was invited back to my Alma Mater to receive a Distinguished Alumni Award from the university’s, College of Education. In the same year, I retired from competition saying farewell at the 2017 CrossFit Games in front of a standing ovation from the sellout crowd in Madison, WI.
In addition to training, coaching, and programming, I own and operate CrossFit Omaha. I travel often and model occasionally. I am also a fitness expert for the Omaha World-Herald’s health and fitness website, LiveWellNebraska.com.
Outside of all of this, you’ll find me hanging with my husband, Dustin, and my 70 pound Double-Doodle pup, Louden. If the sun is shining, you’ll most likely find me outside being active, sunbathing, grilling, or relaxing with some friends by the lake.
As a Professional CrossFit Athlete my goal was always constant – I wanted to compete at the highest level possible and have fun doing it, all while continuing to be a positive force in the CrossFit community. When it was all said and done I wanted to be remembered as a hardworking, talented athlete that wholeheartedly cherished the CrossFit lifestyle and the entire CrossFit community. I was determined to leave my mark on the sport, always striving to embody the CrossFit spirit. Ultimately, I wanted to redefine strength as beauty.
Now that I am retired from competition, these goals remain the same. As long as I can still make an impact I want to hold myself to these same high standards and help others along the way. I want to motivate women and men alike to be a better version of themselves . Most of all, I want to inspire others to embrace the outcome of their own hard work. I encourage everybody that comes into contact with CrossFit to take pride in their labors and enjoy the journey to health and fitness.
“Appreciate the process and daily efforts. You can change if you want to change!”
